A Passion for God: Todd Powers

“I know all the things that you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But, since you are like lukewarm water, I will spit you out of my mouth!” Revelation 3:15 (NLT)

“...turn from your indifference…” Revelation 3:19 (NLT)

In the Beatitudes, Jesus talks about having a hunger and thirst for God. Hunger and thirst denotes a deep spiritual yearning for Him in our lives. We should need God like we need food, water, and air to survive. We should desire Him like we can’t live without Him.

God created us for relationships, so we want to approach relationships with the right attitude. Jesus wants us to have righteousness and to be in right standing with God.

Paul had a passion for God. In Philippians, Paul desired an intimate relationship with God. Paul devoted his heart to God. If we make knowing him our number one priority, then it's in that overflow that we will accomplish what God intended.

Our spiritual blessing will match our spiritual hunger. Our pursuit is determined by what we consider most precious to us. We want to be on fire for Jesus. We want people to be transformed through Jesus.

If our church was being written about in Revelation what would Jesus say about us?

We want to be a church hot for God. We want to love God with passion.

How do we stay on fire for God? Stay close with the coals or passionate people who will encourage us to stay passionate for God.

Prayer: God, help us to be on fire for you. Add coals to our passion, Father. We want to thirst and hunger for you like we need food and water to survive. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
